Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video Review

First Half – A Decent Ride:

The film kicks off with a bang and the first half isfun, fast-paced storytelling and hilarious situations that keep the audience hooked. The jokes are timed perfectly and the 90s setting adds a layer of nostalgia that feels refreshing. The chaotic energy during the couple’s desperate search for the CD is genuinely entertaining with Vijay Raaz’s quirky character, Laadle, adding an extra dose of humor to the mix. His witty one-liners are some of the film’s most memorable moments.

Second Half – Slows Down the Fun:

However, the second half doesn’t maintain the same momentum. The plot becomes slightly convoluted with the introduction of unnecessary subplots and over-the-top situations. A few musical numbers feel forced and disrupt the flow making it seem like they were added just to extend the runtime. While the film tries to balance comedy and drama, it doesn’t always succeed and some of the jokes feel repetitive by this point.

Performances:

Rajkummar Rao is dependable as ever but his performance doesn’t feel as fresh as his previous comedic roles. His character’s quirks don’t hit as hard and some of the humor feels like a retread of his past performances. On the other hand Triptii Dimri brings a delightful mix of innocence and sass to her role and she shines in the emotional moments as well.

Vijay Raaz is undoubtedly the scene-stealer. His unique style of comedy and deadpan delivery keeps the energy alive, even when the story slows down. Mallika Sherawat’s comeback adds some excitement but her role is quite limited.

Technical Aspects:

Visually, the film tries to recreate the 90s vibe but doesn’t always succeed. Certain elements, like Rajkummar’s modern wardrobe and the unrealistic graffiti in a club, feel out of place and break the illusion of the time period. The soundtrack while nostalgic doesn’t add much to the narrative and the songs could have easily been trimmed.

What Works:

  • The first half is packed with few good laughter and well-timed humor.
  • Vijay Raaz delivers a standout performance.
  • Triptii Dimri’s character is a refreshing presence.
  • The nostalgic 90s setting adds charm.

What Doesn’t Work:

  • The second half feels stretched with unnecessary subplots and songs.
  • Inconsistent tone between comedy and drama.
  • Some visual elements feel out of place in the 90s setting.

Verdict:

Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video starts with a quite engaging first half but loses steam as it progresses. It’s a decent one time watch, especially for fans of light-hearted comedies but it could have been much tighter with better editing and more focus on the story. Despite its flaws the movie does manage to deliver a few good laughs, mostly to Vijay Raaz and Triptii Dimri’s performances.
