Hey guys, if you’ve been following 2026 cinema trends, one thing is crystal clear: horror is printing money right now. Audiences are hungry for scares, especially when the story is strong and the budget is smart. No need for 100 crore VFX spectacles – people just want that spine-chilling experience in the theatre. And that’s exactly why I believe Srinidhi Bengaluru’s “Video” has massive sleeper hit potential in Kannada Film Industry (KFI).

Horror Boom: Global & Indian Proof
Internationally, low-budget horrors are going crazy. Obsession made with just $750,000 has crossed $350 million at the box office. Backrooms with $10 million budget pulled $270 million. These numbers show – if the vibe is spooky and the tension is real, no superstar needed.
In India too, horror is working. Bhooth Bangla starring Akshay Kumar became a proper hit for him after a string of averages and flops. It collected way more than expected and proved horror-comedy still has legs.
Then there’s Haunted 3D: Echoes of the Past (2026). Teaser dropped one year back, got heavy criticism for poor VFX and green screen work. They even did reshoots. No big hype, fully negative reviews…. yet the movie still collected around 25 crore. On the same day, Imtiaz Ali’s Main Vaapas Aaunga flopped hard and collected less. This proves that even average horror with spooky vibes can pull surprise numbers if it delivers theatre-friendly scares.
Now Enter “Video” – Small Budget, Big Anticipation
Srinidhi Bengaluru’s “Video” is a found-footage thriller (horror genre) made on a small budget but already one of the most awaited films in Kannada for 2026.
Why the buzz?
- Director’s previous film Blink (2024) – small budget sci-fi thriller with Dheekshith Shetty. It got good theatre response (average business) but became a huge OTT hit, especially in other languages. People loved the fresh concept and smart storytelling.
- Srinidhi didn’t repeat the same genre. He jumped from sci-fi to horror, that’s smart move.
- In between, he dropped the web series Jerax (2026) on Zee5 – quirky fantasy comedy that also got good response.
The teaser of “Video” is already out and initial opinions are positive. It looks like YouTubers investigating a haunted property, classic found-footage style but with a fresh Kannada touch. Not the traditional Blair Witch copy, but something digital and modern.
What “Video” Needs to Become a Sleeper Hit
From what I see, this movie has all the ingredients:
- Decent story + strong spooky atmosphere throughout.
- Good sound design that works in theatres (this is super important for horror).
- Low budget = less pressure, more risk-taking.
- Reunion with Dheekshith Shetty.
- Horror genre wave is strong right now.

If “Video” gets good reviews and mouth publicity (especially the theatre experience – goosebumps, jumps, dark vibes), it can easily surprise everyone. Just like how many small horror films cross expectations when the audience feels satisfied.
Kannada industry needs more films like this – bold, genre-specific, director-driven stories instead of only big star dramas. “Video” feels like one that can travel well on OTT too, just like Blink did.
2026 is looking good for horror lovers. After seeing international blockbusters on tiny budgets and even average Indian horrors collecting decent numbers, a well-made Kannada found-footage film like “Video” has real sleeper hit potential.
I’m genuinely excited. If the final product delivers consistent scares, proper tension, this small film can punch way above its weight.
